The new album Truth Takes Time from singer/songwriter Nate Ward is a roots-inspired piece of nostalgia. From the opening track "Magic Ferry," you can feel the cosmic country guitar tones blend with the jangly piano to paint a picture of a sunny day on a hill way-back when, letting your problems drift away on the breeze. This album does not shy away from life's troubles, however. Nate frequently touches on struggles he faced during the pandemic and the personal relationships breaking down around him during that time ("Uneasy Feelin'"). A common theme seems to be taking one for the team, putting yourself out there and being vulnerable in a world that increasingly seems to rebuke love and reward non-communication in the name of self-preservation ("Troubles by the Door", "Don't Give All Your Love Away"). As the album rounds home base, Nate's James Taylor-esqe voice reassures us that at the end of the day, everything will work out with a little time and a little compassion. A fitting message from a new songwriter with an old soul.
Truth Takes Time is available everywhere March 1st.
